day 19 - acceptance

"Open your heart to who you are right now,/Not who you would like to be."
- John Welwood

Acceptance doesn't mean being a doormat, liking everything that happens, or tolerating the intolerable.

It's simply acknowledging what is.

This little book is handmade, hand-stitched and heartfelt.

It fits in my pocket and has just enough pages to jot down snippets of poems, lyrics, observations and reflections for a week or so - tidbits that may not mean much to anyone else but are important to me.

When I look back, I see that they reflect my truth in those moments. Each little book becomes a sort of mirror - a way of learning to accept what I see reflected back to me.

Today I'm practicing acceptance through a wabi-sabi lens, nurturing the understanding that nothing lasts, nothing is finished, and nothing is perfect.

#initforallthelove, parents

Day 3 of 14) Modular Book (unknown)

The Buddha taught that we owe our parents so much, we could carry them on our backs our entire lives and it wouldn’t be enough.

They are our first gurus; the safe containers into which we can, as Stephen Cope says in Soul Friends, “both relax and expand”.

Today I’m sending love and gratitude to my gurus; my parents, grandparents, godmothers, teachers, mentors, ancestors and elders who guide me with great wisdom and kindness.

It’s true, I can never repay you, but I want you to know, I love you, I revere you and I remember.

diy friday: upcycled pocket books

Today we're folding little booklets that can be used as cards, notebooks, journals and more!

What you need:

- Copy paper for the inner pages.
- Thicker paper for the cover. (I recycled a Tommy Hilfiger ad.)
- Scissors and a paper cutter.
- Double sided tape or glue.

What to do:

1. Cut your copy paper to size.  Cut the cover a few millimeters larger than the copy paper.

2. Follow the instructions for the second booklet in this video on foldsomething.com to create the inner pages.

3. Use glue or tape to attach the pages inside the cover.

Voila!  Your own one-of-a-kind upcycled notebook or scrapbook!

Experiement with junk mail, magazines, brown paper bags, thin cardboard packaging and other papers in your recycling box for unique, free and eco-friendly booklets!
